As the diocese continues to examine the future of the pastoral landscape in Eastern Washington, and the realities of the priest personnel available to serve in our parishes, difficult decisions may need to be made. This year, a few rural parishes are asked to make adjustments as parish groupings grow larger. Bishop Daly and the diocese are committed to maintaining a presence in these communities. The pastors assigned to these new clusters of parishes are excellent priests, with the proven ability to bridge communities. The parishes grouped in the new clusters are communities with dynamic and committed lay faithful who we pray will adapt well to these new arrangements. The diocese has great hope that the new parish clusters will meet the needs of the people and the clergy of the diocese.
The need to make these changes is driven by the reality that at the current time the number of priests available is not sufficient; however the good news is the Lord has blessed us with an ever increasing number of seminarians. Bishop Daly often reminds the clergy, religious and lay faithful to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. These prayers are needed now more than ever, especially in our families.
“The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” (Mt 9:37-38)
